In an interview with Troy High's Terrance Clark, appearing in today's Albany Times-Union, James Allen noted that Daniel Covington had been "released" from the team, meaning Covington was cut by coach John Killian, likely for disciplinary issues. At least now that case is closed.

UAlbany's women's basketball team will head to Vermont to play for the America East title on Friday after closing out their home schedule with a 72-64 win over Maine Sunday at Hudson Valley Community College. Kayla Cooper led the Lady Danes with 23 points. Grace Heeps and Lilly Phillips chipped in with 2 points each. Friday's game will air on ESPNU (Spectrum Cable channel 370) at 5 pm.

The schedule for state regional high school basketball playoffs is out, Section II will host at least four games at Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday, three women's games, and one men's game.

Class AA quarterfinals:

Green Tech vs. Liverpool or West Genesee, Saturday at 12:45 am at Onondaga Community College.

Class A Sub-regional:

Troy vs. New Hartford at Liverpool, Wednesday at 6 pm.

Class B quarterfinals:

Catholic Central vs. Potsdam or Beekmantown, Saturday at 5:15 pm at HVCC.

Class C Sub-regional:

Chatham vs. an opponent to be announced, date & time to be announced.

Class D: quarterfinals:

North Warren vs. a opponent from Section 7, Friday at 5:45. North Warren appears to be hosting this game.

Women's state playoffs:

Class AA quarterfinals:

Albany vs. Liverpool, Saturday at 11 am at Onondaga Community College.

Class A quarterfinals:

Averill Park vs. Indian River or Malone, Saturday at 1:45 pm at HVCC.

Class B quarterfinals:

Albany Academy vs. Saranac or Gouveneur, Saturday at 3:30 pm at HVCC.

Class C Sub-regional:

Greenwich vs. Northeastern Clinton, Wednesday at 5 pm at Clinton Community College.

Class D quarterfinals:

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons vs. a Section 7 team, Saturday at 12 noon at HVCC.

The Albany FireWolves are now 2-8 after losing to Georgia, 9-8, in overtime Saturday at MVP Arena. Up the hill at the Washington Avenue Armory, the Patroons squared their record at 1-1 after being Lehigh Valley, 114-107.
