News & notes

UAlbany picked up its 1st win in baseball this season on Wednesday, blowing out Central Connecticut State, 16-3. Matt Mariano (Shenendehowa) went 3 innings to pick up the win, striking out two and allowing only a walk and a hit. Ty Santabarbara (Guilderland) began the parade of relievers, giving up an unearned run on an error he committed and a hit, with one strikeout. The Great Danes will visit St. John's this weekend, then Army & Maryland, before the home opener vs. UMBC on March 24.

As the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament begins today in Atlantic City, the Siena women are still not getting any respect, as some radio stations are only promoting the men's team.

This might be because, in the case of Albany Broadcasting, they have the rights to Siena men's games (ALT 104.9), and can't be bothered to talk up the women as well just because the women's games are on the school's own station. UAlbany's women have had the same problem, and they're playing for the America East title on Friday.
