For four teams at Luther Forest Sports Complex in Malta and one at Moreau Recreation, it was a happy bus ride home after today's sectional final action in softball. The day started with 5 #1 seeds. It ended with 3 advancing to state play.
Class D:
Salem 4, Argyle 2. Both teams play in the Adirondack League, which can also be referred to as the Rodney Dangerfield league, because the only place where scores are regularly published is the Post-Star out of Glens Falls. Adirondack League scores only appear in the Times-Union when space allows it.
Class C:
Chatham 6, Greenwich 1.
Class B:
Ichabod Crane 9, Glens Falls 4. The Riders swept the B titles in baseball & softball.
Class AA:
Shenendehowa 7, Colonie 6. The Plainswomen survived a late surge by the Garnet Raiders, who scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th.
Saving the best for last:
Class A:
Troy 6, South Glens Falls 2. Back-to-back titles for Sean Geisel's Flying Horses.
Prior to the game, senior ace Olivia DeCitise was named Suburban Council MVP. Then, she went out and did business as usual. The Bulldogs got her for single runs in the 5th & 6th, but by the bottom of the 6th, Troy had built up a 6-1 lead. DeCitise, Section 2 softball's answer to Shohei Ohtani of late, belted her 8th home run of the season to get the scoring started in the top of the 2nd
State play begins in 2 weeks on June 9.
