News & notes

 UAlbany's baseball season is over.

The Great Danes salvaged the final game of an otherwise forgettable 2023 campaign, shutting out New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), 8-0, today in a game that had its start time moved up to 11 am on Senior Day, due likely to rain in the forecast later this afternoon.

NJIT freshman infielder Austin Francis (Troy High) played the last two games, going 2-6 with a walk and 2 runs scored.

Siena's baseball season is over, too, after getting swept by Quinnipiac, 12-11 & 7-0, on Friday Siena limps home 14-41.
=============================================
Troy High alumnus Eric Beaulac, toeing the rubber for the first time in 9 years, pitched a perfect 1st inning Friday for the Tri-City Valleycats.

It went downhill from there.

The Washington Wild Things ravaged the Tri-City bullpen, and handed the 'Cats their 5th straight loss, 9-6. The two teams meet again tonight at 6:30. Weather permitting.

Those of you expecting to see the Mets vs. Cleveland this afternoon on WCWN (Spectrum channel 1212) will have to wait a day. The game was postponed due to rain after the storm hit NYC overnight. They'll play a split doubleheader tomorrow due to the series finale being ESPN's Sunday game of the week.
=================================================
The Montreal Toundra are happy they won't have to play the Albany Patroons again this season.

Albany blew away the Toundra, 136-95, on Friday at the Armory, sweeping the season series between the two clubs, 6-0.
