News & notes

 When the Tri-City Valleycats open their season Friday at Bruno Stadium, they'll have something new that their fans are already accustomed to from watching the big leagues.

A pitch clock.

The rules are the same as in the majors. A pitcher has 15 seconds to throw with no one on base, 20 with runners on. 2 disengagements (i.e. pickoff attempts) per batter. Seeing as how major league games have averaged below 3 hours in the first six weeks of the season, this will work out nicely in the Frontier League, too.
==============================================
Entering play Monday, Schuylerville's softball team was in last place in their division in the Foothills Council with a .500 record. Then, the Black Horses upset Troy, 3-2, snapping Troy's 8-game winning streak to go over .500 overall (8-7, 5-5 league). Troy drops to 14-4 (9-3 Suburban Council) with 2 league games remaining. The loss was Troy's first against a non-league opponent.
===============================================
Burnt Hills & Saratoga will finish Monday's game today, as it was suspended in the 4th inning with the Spartans leading, 2-1. The Suburban Council hasn't provided a reason for the game being suspended.
