You can't say we didn't warn you: An Empire in chaos

"When it rains, it pours"---Morton Salt slogan.

The Albany Times-Union is reporting that the Albany Empire have missed a payroll, prior to Sunday's loss to Carolina, and now several players have been suspended from the team stemming from a post-game incident on the team bus, and the Empire is again looking for a coach.

Interim head coach Damon Ware resigned this morning in the wake of this latest incident, and a number of key players, including QB Sam Castronova, receiver Darius Prince, defensive standouts Nick Haag & Dwayne Hollis, and lineman Melvin Hollins, have been denied hotel keys and suspended.

While details are scarce presently as to what exactly happened on the bus ride back from Greensboro, North Carolina, acting team president Alberony Denis told the Times-Union that the payroll issue stems from issues in the transition from former owner Mike Kwarta to current majority owner Antonio Brown, and that the players will be paid prior to Saturday's home game vs. West Texas.

If Castronova can't go, former UAlbany QB Vincent Testaverde, Jr. may get the start. We'll keep an eye on this story.

Update, 8:17 pm: News sources are reporting that Castronova, Prince, Hollis, and the other suspended players were actually released.

Troy High's women's flag football team snapped a 2-game losing streak Saturday in blowing out Plattsburgh, 30-6. Troy (3-2) has nearly 2 weeks off before another road trip starts May 12 at Rhinebeck. They then travel to Saugerties on May 13, then to a site TBA (either Plattsburgh or Westside) on May 20 to close the season.
