High School Fridays: Lansingburgh @ Schalmont, 9/22/23

Friday Night Matchup presents a battle of unbeatens in Class B this week, as Lansingburgh (3-0) visited Schalmont (2-0) tonight in the Sabres' home opener.

Lansingburgh won the toss, and took the opening kickoff.....nowhere. It was a defensive struggle in the 1st quarter until the Sabres collected a safety late in the frame after a penalty backed up the Knights near their own goal line.

Beginning in the 2nd quarter, it was the Landen Callahan show.

Less than 2 minutes into the quarter, Callahan scampered in from 15 yards out. QB-PK Ryan Woodrow added the extra point, and Schalmont extended its lead to 9-0. Two minutes later, Callahan recovered a blocked punt, and scored again. Dylan Devine, on a gadget play, hit Woodrow for the 2 point conversion. Mere seconds later, Devine picked off Israel Baker, and ran 33 yards to paydirt. Woodrow added the PAT, and the Sabres went into the break with a healthy 24-0 lead.

Things quieted down in the 2nd half until Callahan----who else?----added to his big night with two more touchdowns in the space of 2 1/2 minutes to lock it down for Schalmont, which goes to 3-0 with a 37-0 shutout. 'Burgh falls to 3-1.
