News & notes

Hudson Valley Community College is ready for its close-up.

Tomorrow's home opener for the football team vs. Nassau will be on ESPN+, with kickoff just after 1 pm.

Joe Mixie, the voice of Siena women's basketball and softball, returns to the HVCC campus, where he was the online voice of the Tri-City Valleycats for a couple of years, to call the game for ESPN+, which I think might be his video debut. HVCC could use the community support, not just from the students & college faculty, but also from the citizens of Troy, North Greenbush, etc., which surround the campus.

Thursday's special edition of Friday Night Matchup was not without its issues.

Spectrum had trouble with their video feed at the start, and most replays seemed to pause for a second or two, as if was buffering on the air. Announcers Chris Watson & James Allen confirmed that they did not return to Burnt Hills on September 9 when the Spartans & Saratoga finally played.

In what is likely a first, Union College will play their home opener under the lights.

The Garnet Chargers (2-0) host Springfield at Bailey Field tonight at 7, while RPI is on the road at Worcester Poly. That game can be heard on WRPI (91.5 FM) or on their website. As with last night's high school schedule, the colleges are having the games tonight due to Jewish New Year.
