News & notes

Today's rains have forced the postponement of two events scheduled for this afternoon.

In the Colonial Council, a golf match between LaSalle & Mohonasen was rained out, and has been rescheduled for October 3.

In the Suburban Council, a tennis meet between Troy & Columbia likewise was rained out. No make-up date has been set.

A non-league swimming & diving meet between Ravena (Colonial Council) & Albany (Suburban Council) was postponed for different, unannounced reasons. No make-up date has been set.

Come next fall, the Foothills & Colonial Councils will be saying good-bye to member schools who are jumping to the Western Athletic Conference.

Johnstown (Foothills) and Cobleskill-Richmondville (Colonial) are making the jump, although in the case of Cobleskill, it's at a risk, since the WAC does not offer lacrosse and field hockey. The school is looking to move to independent status in those sports.

Hudson Valley Community College couldn't be bothered with a head count at Saturday's football home opener vs. Nassau. Checking the box score the next day, they claimed the attendance was at zero.

Nassau defeated HVCC, 13-6, to pick up its 1st win of the season.

It's taken four days, but now we know Troy's men's soccer team, like the women, picked up their first win Thursday, beating Schenectady, 2-1. They'll be back under the lights at Picken Field tomorrow vs. Columbia, with a 7 pm start.
