News & notes

It was not a good day for UAlbany women's sports on Sunday.

First, the women's volleyball team were swept in straight sets by the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Then, the Lady Danes lost in soccer, 2-1, to New Hampshire.

While we don't have records for the volleyball team, the women's soccer team drops to 0-2-2 in America East play, and 3-6-2 overall.

In other volleyball action, Siena swept St. Peter's in straight sets.

Coming off a sectional title seven months ago, you'd think Green Tech wouldn't have a problem getting their 2023-4 schedule finalized.

But we must also remember that Green Tech, based out of Albany, is a charter school at its core, and, apparently, can't presently afford to send the Eagles on long road trips, since they play an independent schedule.

That means the school needs to do some fundraising, and one means of doing so is in a sport that the Eagles don't play. Bowling.

Uncle Sam Lanes on Fulton Street will host a fundraiser for the Green Tech basketball program on October 29. To participate, bowlers will pay $15 per person. The plan is to have 6-8 bowlers on each set of lanes.

Other college action:

Russell Sage College's men's golf team finished 10th in the Oswego State Fall Invitational on Sunday, won by St. Lawrence. The Gators' Elijah Waterhouse placed 16th in individual competiton in the 18 hole event.

Sage's women's tennis team defeated St. John Fisher, 5-4.

In high school action, it was a meeting of two Christian Brothers Academies. CBA-Syracuse downed CBA-Albany, 3-1. The Albany Brothers drop to 5-3-3 overall, 4-2-2 in Suburban Council play with 5 games remaining.
