Saturday's high school & college scoreboard, 11/25

 And, then, there were two.

Bob Burns' quest for a state football title for Christian Brothers Academy was stymied again Saturday. A 2nd half comeback against Carmel fell short, and CBA was eliminated, 35-27, in the nightcap at Middletown High.

The Brothers finish 11-2, and saw a glimpse into their immediate future as sophomore quarterback Archie Jones engineered the offense in the 2nd half. Archie's brother, Donald, and Jake Iaccobaccio are seniors, and played their last game for CBA. Carmel will play either CBA-Syracuse or Olmstead at the JMA Wireless Dome (formerly Carrier Dome) in Syracuse next Saturday.

Gary VanDerzee hoped to end his coaching career with a state title. Rye had other ideas, upsetting the Class B champs, 24-10.

Class C champ Fonda-Fultonville will join Class D winner Stillwater in Syracuse after unseating defending state champion O'Neill, 33-7. Fonda will play Waverly, next Saturday.

Officially, OESJ's pre-season tournament is the Coach Cutspec Memorial, and Duanesburg won the title game, 85-34, over host OESJ, on Saturday. Schoharie won the 3rd place game, defeating Fort Plain, 53-33.
