News & notes

Troy High's men's basketball team needed some momentum going into sectionals, which begin later this week.

On Senior Night Monday, they got it, clipping Guilderland in a non-league regular season finale, 47-46. Troy finishes the regular season at 4-16, a far, far cry from last season.

Meanwhile, Troy's bowling team placed 13th in the Class A sectionals at Boulevard Bowl after a hot start. Vince Mainello had high single honors. Troy, you'll recall, finished 10th in the Suburban Council championships last week after finishing their league schedule at 6-8.

Averill Park's women's basketball team completed an undefeated regular season Monday, beating Bethlehem 50-44. They'll likely be the top seed in the sectionals when the brackets are released tomorrow.

Lansingburgh captured the Class B men's sectionals on Monday, besting 2nd place Cohoes by nearly 40 total pins.

The only other men's basketball score of note from Monday sees Catskill over Coxsackie-Athens, 58-45, in a battle for bragging rights in Greene County.

As for the women, Schalmont defeated Emma Willard.

UAlbany placed 14th in the Columbia Golf Classic for women, 50 strokes behind Yale, which won the tournament.
