News & notes

As noted over at The Land of Whatever yesterday, former WTMM host Brian Cady did not work his Sunday morning DJ shift at WROW this weekend. Cady, who has been the host of Albany Street since October 2022, and is the PA voice of the Amsterdam Mohawks of the Perfect Game League and the Section II women's basketball sectionals, as well as the NYSPHSAA tournaments at Hudson Valley Community College, hasn't produced a new episode of Street since last month, due to various other commitments, and we have to assume he was snowbound in Amsterdam yesterday. Otherwise, he may very well have been cut loose by Albany Broadcasting. We'll keep an eye on that.

It appears that Saturday's lacrosse match between LaSalle & Monroe Woodbury was cancelled at the last minute, since no score has been submitted to local media. The Cadets are due to go on the road today for a non-league match before league play starts next week.

Belated congratulations going out to New York University women's basketball coach Meg Barber, a graduate of Hoosick Falls, who led the Violets to the NCAA Division III championship on March 16, defeating Smith College, 51-41, in Columbus, Ohio. Meg is being profiled today in the Albany Times-Union.

NCAA notes:

Joseph Girard III (Glens Falls/Syracuse) had 13 points in 35 minutes, helping Clemson advance to the Sweet 16 with a 72-64 win over Baylor on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers will play Arizona on Thursday night.

However, August Mahoney (Albany Academy) had just 7 points as Yale was eliminated by San Diego State, 85-57, on Sunday night. The game was delayed a half hour due to earlier games running long, as tip time on TBS wasn't until 10:10 pm. The Aztecs will play defending champion Connecticut on Thursday.

LSU & South Carolina have punched their tickets to Albany for the Women's Sweet 16, and Iowa could join them.

South Carolina awaits the winner of tonight's game between Oklahoma & Indiana (6:30 pm, ESPN2), while LSU, the defending champions, will find out who they'll play next as Creighton & UCLA will play tonight (8:30 pm, ESPN2). Iowa already knows who they'll play if they win tonight. The Lady Hawkeyes will play West Virginia (8 pm, ESPN), with the winner to play Colorado on Saturday at MVP Arena (time TBA).
