News & notes

The Albany Patroons will start the postseason on the road.

The Pats closed the regular season losing to the Frederick Flying Cows, 129-111, at the Washington Avenue Armory. Albany finishes 17-6 for the regular season, and will be on the road for the playoffs. Shadell Millinghaus (Troy/Schenectady) led all scorers with 37 points.

Albany had to forfeit a game on Thursday at Virginia Valley due to travel concerns, so they will be at Reading, with the season on the line, Tuesday, on a 2 game losing streak.

The Tri-City Valleycats will head home with some momentum after beating Quebec, 5-1, on Sunday, to finish 3-3 on the road trip.

However, if you're listening to WROW this morning, Ben Patten has the Saturday & Sunday results mixed up, as he has given Saturday's score (6-5 'Cats) as Sunday's. I have no idea why.

Shenendehowa added another sectional title to their growing collection, capturing the initial Class AAA baseball title Sunday night, beating Saratoga, 9-4, to take the best of 3 series, 2-1. State play awaits.

Ballston Spa's Ana Gold is heading to the Women's College World Series.

Gold, a senior 3rd baseman for Duke, had gone 0-9 in the weekend series vs. Missouri before clanging a double to right in the top of the 9th inning, driving in a run, then scoring what would be the winning run, as the Tigers came back with 3 of their own in the bottom of the 9th, but the Blue Devils held on, 4-3, and will head to Oklahoma City for the WCWS, which begins Thursday. Duke will play Oklahoma in the 1st round. The Sooners defeated Duke in the season opener, back in February.
