News & notes

All they need now is just 1 win.

The Tri-City Valleycats open a weekend series at Sussex County tonight needing to win one more game to lock down a playoff spot, this after demolishing New Jersey, 17-0, on Thursday night.

Arlo Marynczak (Bethlehem/Siena) and Connor Wilford combined on a 3 hit shutout. Marynczak went 7, giving up 2 walks in addition to the 3 hits, while fanning 12, rebounding from a loss to Ottawa last Friday. Jaxon Hallmark put the icing on the cake with a grand slam late, his 3rd homer in 2 games, to put the game away.

Siena's men's soccer team is looking for its 1st win of the season after dropping a 1-0 decision to Lafayette Wednesday night. Conversely, the Siena women squared their record at 2-2 in beating Le Moyne, 3-1, on Thursday.

Jeff Hoffman (Shaker) picked up the save Thursday, as the NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves, 5-4, in a game seen on MLB Network. Hoffman pitched a clean 9th inning as the Phillies close in on another playoff berth.
