News & notes

For the 2nd time in a month, commuters passing through Watervliet were detoured due to a road race.

For the first time that I can remember, the Mohawk-Hudson River Marathon ran through the Arsenal City on Sunday, three weeks after the Arsenal City Run. In this case, the marathon started in Schenectady, and passed through Watervliet on its way to the finish line at Corning Preserve in Albany.

Siena graduate Paolo Fiori won the men's race in just over 2 1/2 hours. 21 minutes later, Elisa Kerschner of Maine won the women's race.

The city of Watervliet did what they could to alert commuters and citizens to the race, but an electronic message board alerting commuters of detours for the race had some defects in it, the same shadowy defects I've seen in high school gyms in recent years.

Maybe next year, they'll do a better job promoting the race, like putting some advance articles in the press.
