News & notes

 Former NYRA track announcer Tom Durkin is currently doing radio spots for the National Museum of Racing in Saratoga. The ads began running during the summer meet at Saratoga. Nice to hear Tom is keeping busy.

Former UAlbany football coach Bob Ford, for whom the football field was christened at Casey Stadium, is getting a well deserved honor, well into retirement.

Ford, 87, will receive the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award from the American Football Coaches Association in January at the association's convention in Charlotte.

Coxsackie-Athens has called a halt to its football season due to a player shortage. The Riverhawks started the season with 24 players, but, after an 0-5 start, are down to 15, and thus will forfeit their remaining games. The future of the program remains in question.
=============================================
Russell Sage College has advanced to the semi-finals of the Empire 8 tennis tournament after beating St. John Fisher, 5-2, on Tuesday. The semi-finals will be either Thursday or Friday at the earliest.
