News & notes

After missing two free throws that could've won the game on Friday, Niskayuna native Brendan Coyle redeemed himself Sunday afternoon as Siena gained a split of their Western NY trip with a 66-53 win over Canisius.

Coyle finished with 17 points. Justice Shoats led the Saints (5-5) with 18 points, and Major Freeman added 14. Siena returns to MVP Arena tonight to host St. Bonaventure with the Franciscan Cup on the line.

Despite a strong start to the season, Troy High's bowlers are getting the Rodney Dangerfield treatment from James Allen of the Albany Times-Union. Seems to me that you need to shoot a 700 triple to get on Allen's Honor Roll, which shifted from Mondays to Tuesdays earlier this year.

Meanwhile Stetson Merritt made the honor roll after lighting up Columbia for 35 points on Saturday. At least Troy basketball is assured of some respect......!
