Roasted Ravens (Ravena @ Troy, 1/27/25)

After using Native American imagery & mascots for decades, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk adopted the Ravens as their new team nickname.

Unfortunately, it isn't working so well on the basketball court.

The Ravena women came to Troy High for the first time tonight, while the men played at Ravena, games rescheduled from last month. Given how hot both Troy teams have been of late, so much so you could end up getting burned just shaking hands with the players, it seems, the Ravens had a tall order in front of them.

Good thing they're not the Crows, right? Right?

Troy's women won their 6th straight, and you'd have to go back at least 10 years or so for the last time a Troy women's team won that many in a row, I think. Check the video:

Troy's defense has emerged with the move to the Colonial Council. Much more aggressive and active, unlike the last few years.

Next up for the women is a road trip to Albany Academy on Friday.

As for the guys, they also won their 6th straight. Ravena actually led in this game-----for all of a few seconds in the 2nd quarter, otherwise it was all Troy, all night. Again. This time, they hit 100 points, in a 100-60 demolition. The women's final was 65-35.

The men open a 2 game homestand Thursday vs. Bethlehem, with Shenendehowa coming in on Saturday.
