Troy High sports review, through January 24

As winter sports enters the homestretch, Troy High basketball is, to borrow from Stevie Wonder, hotter than July.

Men's basketball:

Current record: 10-2 (6-1 Colonial Council).

Jamil Hood's Flying Horses dropped 90 points each on Columbia & Ichabod Crane. In between, Stetson Merritt was named to WNYT's all star team.

Next: The road trip continues at Ravena on Monday in a make-up game from last month. Then, it's back-to-back games vs. Suburban Council foes Bethlehem & Shenendehowa, Thursday & Saturday, respectively. Troy will be looking for payback against Shen.

Women's basketball:

Current record: 9-5 (4-4 Colonial Council).

Like the boys, Will Harris' ladies have won 5 straight, and it's been a long time since Troy's women have done that. They collected a receipt on Burnt Hills, then spanked Ichabod Crane.

Next:

Ravena visits on Monday, and then, the ladies visit Albany Academy on Friday.

Swimming:

Current record: 7-0.

Shaker is the last regular season opponent, come Thursday. The Flying Devil Brothers may be on the cusp of history.

Bowling returns Tuesday, as Troy closes with home matches vs. Voorheesville & Ravena to end the regular season.
