Troy High basketball reaches its homestretch

Two weeks and change remain in the regular season for Section II basketball. Troy High is already assured of a winning record in men's action, and maybe the women, too.

Women:

Current record: 10-6 (5-5 Colonial Council).

Four games remain after a blowout loss to Albany Academy on Friday night, snapping a 6 game winning streak. In terms of league play, the Lady Horses are tied for 6th with Voorheesville, which makes its first visit to Zotto Gym on Tuesday night. After that.....

February 7: @ Cohoes.

February 11: Senior night vs. Lansingburgh.

February 14: Season finale vs. Mohonasen.

Coach Will Harris will have his team ready for the Blackbirds, and Mohon will be primed for revenge after a tough loss at Zotto Gym last month. When you consider that Troy has beaten the teams they're expected to beat (i.e. Cohoes, 'Burgh), and their only league losses have come against the teams in front of them in the standings (Catholic Central, Albany Academy, Holy Names, LaSalle, Schalmont), they should have some momentum going into the sectionals, which begin Feb. 19-20.

Projected finish: 14-6 (9-5).

Men:

Current record: 11-3 (7-1 Colonial Council).

Six games remain for Jamil Hood's club after a non-league loss to Bethlehem on Thursday. Revenge is on the menu with Shenendehowa coming in today at Zotto Gym, but they're coming off a loss of their own to Shaker on Tuesday.

The remaining schedule after today:

February 4: @ Voorheesville.

February 6: Cohoes.

February 8: @ Lansingburgh at MVP Arena.

February 14: Senior night vs. Mohonasen.

February 18: Season finale @ Schenectady.

Keep in mind that the lone loss in league play for Troy came against LaSalle. They will have trouble with Shen today, to be sure, and it'd be a surprise if they won. Other than that, the remaining schedule should be a breeze.

Projected finish: 16-4 (11-1).

Of course, I could be wrong.
