The other shoe dropped for lacrosse fans in the 518 Monday with confirmation that the FireWolves are leaving Albany, and will play in Oshawa, Ontario, starting this winter.

Despite signing an extension on their lease at MVP Arena prior to the 2024-5 season, the 'Wolves had struggled at the gate, as some folks opted to stay home and watch the games on WNYA (Spectrum channel 1215) than spend the money at the arena on tickets and overpriced concessions.
Official confirmation from the National Lacrosse League should come later this week. At the end of the day, pro lacrosse is still a tough sell in this area, though the 'Wolves outlasted the Albany Attack (2000-3) by playing 4 seasons at MVP Arena.

With two weeks left in the regular season of the Frontier League, the Tri-City Valleycats have an 8 game lead in the wild card race with 13 games remaining, starting with tonight's doubleheader vs. the NY Boulders. After the home finale vs. Joliet on Sunday, Tri-City closes out with road games at New Jersey & Ottawa, hoping to lock down a Wild Card berth for the 2nd straight season.

LaSalle hockey & golf coach Tim Flanigan confirmed what James Allen had reported in the Albany Times-Union the other day, that Albany Academy has indeed pulled out of the Capital District High School Hockey League for the 2nd time. That leaves Flanigan with two dates to fill, December 12, which was a road game, and February 6 at home, likely at Knickerbacker Arena. Flanigan said the schedule will be updated soon, and that applies to all the remaining teams in the CDHSHL. Stay tuned.
