Attaching corporate sponsorship to awards is getting out of hand.

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has landed a deal with Jersey Mike's subs for their weekly player of the week award, at least in soccer. Siena's Cate Burns, a sophomore, was given the honor for her efforts last week.

Next thing you know, Taco Bell, which already has an ongoing promotion with the NCAA during football season, will also attach itself to a league's awards. Just sayin'.

Saratoga closed out the 2025 season on Monday. Jose Ortiz had a riding triple to lock up 2nd place in the jockey standings with 55, four in back of his brother, Irad Ortiz, Jr., who is sitting out a few days recovering from Sunday's spill. The brothers will be back in Kentucky later this week.

Chad Brown & Todd Pletcher tied for the training title with 32 winners each. For Brown, a native of Mechanicville, it's the 5th straight year he's been atop the leader board, alone or tied. He's won 8 training titles overall, while Pletcher, his mentor, has 15.

Saratoga will host the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival for a 3rd year in 2026, as renovations on Belmont Park won't be ready until the fall of '26.
