Troy High sports review, through August 29

As classes begin Thursday at Troy High, the sports season began nearly 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, athletic director Paul Reinisch and the coaches have not been very timely with event results. Reinisch we can understand, since son Jake is in the Frontier League playoffs with the Tri-City Valleycats, with a home game tomorrow night. As for various coaches, well, indifference seems to be a plausible, ready explanation, so we'll go with what we have.

Golf:

Current record: Incomplete.

Jack O'Keefe's duffers opened at home, or were supposed to, on August 21 vs. Ichabod Crane, followed by a road match at Ravena. Neither match was reported.

The Flying Horses went 1-2 last week, beating Schalmont, but then, losing on the road to Voorheesville, and at home vs. Albany Academy.

This week: LaSalle will have the home field at Frear Park on Wednesday for the first of two matches vs. Troy.

Women's soccer:

Record: Unknown.

Jarret Farrell's club was to open vs. Holy Names on August 28, but this match was never reported, either.

This week: A road game vs. Schalmont opens the week. The girls then return home for a non-league match vs. Albany on Thursday night

Women's tennis:

No record as of press time.

Matches last week vs. Ravena & Schalmont were postponed. As previously reported, the home match vs. the Ravens will now take place Sept. 11. No make-up date has been set for the road match at Schalmont.

This week:

Trevor McCarthy, in his first year as women's tennis coach, will finally get a meet under his belt as Voorheesville visits Troy today. After that, the women will play Emma Willard at Prospect Park on Thursday.

The rest of this week's schedule:

Tonight: Men's soccer home opener vs Schalmont at Picken Field, 7 pm.

Wednesday: Volleyball opens at home vs. Amsterdam at 6 pm. Check Troy's YouTube channel to see if the match is being streamed.

Thursday: Men's soccer at Amsterdam. Volleyball hosts Holy Names.

Friday: Football opens at Horseheads.

Saturday: Men's cross country opens at the Niskayuna Invitational. Men's soccer is at Schenectady.
