Throughout football season the last couple of years, Chris Watson has made mention on the air that Section II needs game officials. Rodger Wyland will almost certainly make the same pitch during tonight's basketball broadcast between Shenendehowa & Shaker (WNYA, 7 pm), as they definitely need some younger officials on the court this winter.
This would explain why Schalmont & Troy moved their basketball games from tonight to last night, absent another scheduling conflict, say, at Schalmont, since Troy had no conflicts, because had they not done so, they would've been stuck for officials tonight, or so it'd seem.
Be that as it may, Troy's women ran their record to 3-0 (2-0 Colonial Council) with a 60-53 win over the Lady Sabres. Over in Troy, the men plastered Schalmont, 69-49, powered by Kayne Behan with 21 points, and Jordan Hood, the coach's son, with 20. Jamil Hood's club is now 2-0 (1-0 Colonial Council) heading into tomorrow's matinee vs. Marcellus at HVCC. Will Harris' Lady Horses will pay a call on Sarah Rainville and Columbia tomorrow afternoon as well.
Apparently, Troy's road trip to Voorheesville for bowling was a non-starter earlier this week due to unforeseen circumstances. The match was originally slated for Tuesday, then switched to Wednesday, then postponed. No make-up date has been set.
The two days off gave Don Poutre's squad the incentive to return home to Uncle Sam Lanes to blow out LaSalle, 29-3. Troy goes to 4-0 with the win.
The rest of Thursday's scoreboard:
Women's basketball:
Queensbury 55, Gloversville 30.
Galway 51, Cobleskill-Richmondville 37.

Amsterdam 59, Broadalbin-Perth 52.
Saratoga Catholic 50, Hoosic Valley 39.
Tamarac 60, Emma Willard 20. The Jesters are 0-3, and the talent disparity between this year's team and the one that went to the sectionals in 2019-20 couldn't be more distinct.
Men's basketball:
Watervliet-Heatly 65, Catskill 53.
Whitehall 50, Lake George 41.
