Six-plus years ago, Watervliet High made its first visit to Zotto Gym to scrimmage Troy before the 2019-20 season.
Tonight, they played in a game that counted.
Jamil Hood's Flying Horses hadn't played in 2 weeks after blowing out Ravena on December 19. Watervliet-Heatly, as it's now known, had some game action in the interim, and it was just a question of whether or not Troy had fresh legs, or if the layoff would prove costly, just like we've seen in the College Football Playoffs.
Troy opened the evening by winning the JV game. However, the school decided to only stream the varsity match on Hudl:
Troy High School | High School Sports | Home | Hudl
Troy, now 5-0 (2-0 Colonial Council) had seen its mirror image, and I'd guess this is because many of the players on both teams have been tutored by Coach Hood.
League play resumes on Tuesday, when Troy visits LaSalle.
Other scores as of press time:
Greenwich 96, Ticonderoga 53.
Cambridge 79, Lake George 54.
Cobleskill-Richmondville 64, Cohoes 26. That doesn't bode well for the Tigers when they play Troy next Friday night at Zotto Gym.
