Troy High sports review, through January 24

We're in the homestretch of the winter season. One week remains for the men's swimming program, about three for basketball.

Swimming (w/CBA & Columbia):

Current record: 5-3.

The Flying Devil Brothers snapped a 3 meet losing streak in beating Ballston Spa on Tuesday.

Next: The season closes with a road trip to battle Burnt Hills-Scotia, then it's Senior Day Thursday vs. Guilderland.

Men's basketball:

Current record: 9-3 (6-1 Colonial Council):

Jamil Hood's squad was treated rudely by undefeated CBA on Wednesday, absorbing their worst loss of the year. Then, they beat Ichabod Crane.

Next: It's back on the road, this time at Berne-Knox-Westerlo, from the Western Athletic Conference, on Tuesday.

Women's basketball:

Current record: 12-2 (9-0 Colonial Council).

It may be bitter cold this weekend, but Troy's women are red hot on the court.

Will Harris' crew has run its winning streak to six with a blowout win over Hudson Falls earlier today, 72-32, this after beating Bethlehem & Ichabod Crane earlier in the week. Y'think they're ready for a 1st place showdown?

Next: Albany Academy comes to town on Friday with 1st place on the line. The Bears are the only team Troy hasn't collected a receipt from after losing last year. Only the cold weather could keep fans away from what will be the league's game of the year.
