The Class B men's semifinals took place Monday at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, kicking off a week of high school action at the former Glens Falls Civic Center.
It'll be 1 vs. 2 in the final on Friday night. Top seeded Schalmont, out of the Colonial Council, defeated Fonda-Fultonville, 66-36. Talk about overmatched. Homestanding Glens Falls, the #2 seed defeated Watervliet, 88-70, with 75% of the Indians' scoring done by Joseph Girard III, who lit up the Cannoneers' defense for 66 points.
I tell you, Girard will have to adjust to a different role in the offense when he gets to Syracuse next season. It'll be Glens Falls vs. Schalmont on Friday.
The first Class C semi-final saw top seeded Lake George eliminate Mayfield, 69-44. The other C sem will be played tonight.
In women's action, the Class D semis were played at Ballston Spa, and the first top seed of the tournament to fall was Fort Edward, losing to North Warren, 54-53. Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons advanced by beating Hartford, 57-53.
North Warren and Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons advance to the finals, Friday at Hudson Valley Community College.
