News & notes

UAlbany will not have a postseason in "Fall II"'s football season.

The Great Danes fell to 1-3 Saturday after dropping a 21-7 decision to state rival Stony Brook. Starting quarterback Jeff Undercuffler sat out with an injury, and is questionable for the Danes' next game April 3 at Delaware. The loss eliminates UAlbany from playoff contention in the Colonial Athletic Conference.

You're forgiven if you tuned in to ESPNews Saturday night expecting to see the St. Cloud State-Boston University NCAA hockey playoff, and didn't get anything more than highlights.

You see, when Notre Dame was forced to withdraw due to COVID, ESPN made a last minute scheduling change, and moved the St. Cloud-BU game to 1 pm. St. Cloud State then reduced the Terriers to puppy chow, advancing to Sunday's regional final with a 6-2 win.

And if that was just an appetizer, the main course saw St. Cloud complete a Bay State sweep, beating the Eagles, 4-1, on Sunday night, advancing to the Frozen Four.

While Pittsburgh was swept by Syracuse in a 4 game softball series over the weekend, Troy High alum Hunter Levesque showed signs of coming out of a recent slump. Hunter went 3-7 with a walk and an RBI in the final three games of the series.

Speaking of Syracuse, the Orange's NCAA basketball season is over after a 67-46 loss to Houston on Saturday night. Joseph Girard III (Glens Falls) finished with 12 points in a losing effort.
