Ever since they dropped from Class AA to Class A a few years back, Albany High has been a punching bag for the rest of Class A.
And, then, Troy High came to town.
The winless Falcons came into today's game hoping to avenge a beatdown at the hands of Bob Burns' Flying Horses 18 months ago at Picken Field. They would've had a better chance submitting the result of a video simulation.
Under overcast skies, Troy got things started early on defense as senior Xavier Leigh, already assured of being on some all-star teams on offense, put Troy on the board with a pick 6. Will Ryan's extra point made it 7-0, and it was academic from there. This game might as well have been sponsored by Campbell's Tomato Soup.
Troy's only defensive mistake in the first half came on special teams, getting caught sleeping on a fake punt in the 2nd quarter. Albany had a garbage time touchdown late in the 4th quarter, but by then, they closed the soup kitchens in concessions, and Troy completes a perfect "regular season", to the tune of 58-14.
Troy has averaged 49.4 points a game, while allowing 9 points a game. Ouch!! The Flying Horses will host a team to be named next week. Kickoff will be at its regular time at 7 pm.
