News & notes

Albany's National Lacrosse League franchise has a name.

When the team begins play later this year at Times-Union Center, they will be known as the Albany FireWolves, rather than revive the dormant Albany Attack name used 20 years ago.

The team wasted little time after Thursday's presser with advertising hype. Now, all they need is to fill out the roster. Stay tuned.

Good news for horse racing fans.

Starting next week, the NY Racing Association will open their gates for bettors and fans at 20% capacity. The folks at Saratoga would love to see that number increase when the annual summer meet starts in July.

UAlbany's men's lacrosse match vs. Vermont this weekend has been postponed due to COVID issues. Similarly, as Section II Class AA prepares its playoffs, CBA & Guilderland have been given automatic bids into the semi-final round with Colonie & Saratoga pausing activities due to COVID issues. CBA will play a crossover game today at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, while Guilderland has essentially earned a bye week.

The rest of the classes will wrap their "regular seasons" today & tomorrow.
