News & notes

 Well, that didn't take long.

After losing head coach Rob Keefe and assistant Les Moss to the Iowa Barnstormers of the Indoor Arena League, the Albany Empire have hired a new head coach with National Arena League experience to guide them through the new loop.

Tom Menas was introduced Friday as the new coach and acting general manager, and will be tasked with putting together a roster for the 2021 season, which starts next month. Menas was to have been a coach with the NAL's Jersey Flight last year, but for the pandemic cancelling the 2020 season.

While Siena's men's basketball team fell short of a MAAC title this season, the same cannot be said for the women's soccer team.

The Lady Saints needed penalty kicks to beat Monmouth, the reigning MAAC champion, on Friday to claim their 3rd MAAC title. The Lady Saints outpointed the Lady Hawks, 4-2, on PK's after playing to a scoreless draw after regulation & overtime.

Friday's high school scoreboard:

One Class A semi-final has been set for next weekend, as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (5-0) upended Class AA foe CBA (2-3), 28-20. Meanwhile, Averill Park won their 2nd straight, ending LaSalle's 2 game winning streak, 20-13. That means Zach Gobel's Warriors are facing mission impossible next week, having to travel to Burnt Hills to play the always dangerous Spartans.

Troy, meanwhile, awaits the winner of today's Queensbury-Niskayuna game. If Queensbury wins, then Troy has a shot at revenge after losing the Class A Super Bowl to the Spartans in 2019.
