News & notes

All Siena needed was some reinforcements.

Entering Friday's doubleheader vs. St. Peter's, Tony Rossi's Saints got some much needed help when redshirt sophomore Brett Young (Albany Academy) was finally granted a waiver from the NCAA. Young started all four games over the two days vs. the Peacocks in the outfield, just as he was at Virginia Commonwealth last year in a shortened season.

All Young did was go 10-15 in the series (.667 batting average) with a home run and 6 RBI. Siena swept all four games in convincing fashion as they're making a late run toward the MAAC tournament next month.

Saturday's doubleheader was a showcase for two pitchers who've mostly worked out of the bullpen this season.

In the opener, Arlo Marynczak (Bethlehem) hurled the 3rd no-hitter in school history, giving up only an unearned run as the result of two walks and an error in the 6th inning, as Siena blew out St. Peter's, 14-1. Another Albany Academy alum, Brooks Knapek, a graduate transfer from VCU, pitched a complete game shutout in the nightcap, with Siena completing the sweep, 7-0.

Rossi has already said that Marynczak, and, presumably, Knapek as well, will return to the bullpen. Marynczak, a junior, may have auditioned for a spot in the rotation next season.
