News & notes

Congratulations to UAlbany baseball coach Jon Mueller, named America East Coach of The Year ahead of the league's tournament, which begins today at Stony Brook.

Mueller, a high school star at Stillwater, led the Great Danes to a division title this season.

The Danes, however, may be without Averill Park grad Anthony Germinerio, who was injured and removed after throwing just one pitch vs. Maine on May 21. Time will tell.

The Knicks evened their best of 7 NBA 1st round series vs. Atlanta on Wednesday with a 101-92 win. Atlanta's Kevin Huerter (Shenendehowa) came off the bench to score 10 points in a losing effort for the Hawks.

Games 3-4 will be in Atlanta, so Huerter will likely miss seeing his pal Ian Anderson pitch for the Braves on Friday vs. the Mets.

The other day, the question was asked if Troy High's baseball team had peaked.

The same might now be said of the softball team.

Sean Geisel's club has been shut out in 2 straight games, the latest a 12-0, 5 inning shellacking at the hands of Bethlehem on Wednesday. Troy falls to 6-5 in the Suburban Council (7-5 overall), and need to regroup quickly before visiting Averill Park on Friday (weather permitting) before coming home to start what is now a home & home series with Cohoes. They'll play Saturday morning at 10, with the return match now set for Cohoes next Wednesday. Otherwise, the Lady Horses will close the season at Saratoga on June 4.

Bethlehem also defeated Troy in tennis (9-0, naturally). The baseball game was postponed to today due to inclement weather, and the two schools will also meet in lacrosse tonight.
