News & notes

The Atlanta Hawks inserted Kevin Huerter into the starting lineup Monday for game 4 of their NBA Eastern Conference semi-final vs. Philadelphia. Huerter scored 10 points, to help Atlanta even the series at 2 games apiece, winning game 4, 103-100. The scene shifts back to Philadelphia for game 5 later this week.

Like everyone else, the Troy Fighting Irish didn't play a game in 2020 due to COVID-19.

However, that also ultimately cost the Irish the use of Lansingburgh High as their home field. A quick check of the team's website shows that their home games this year have shifted over to Watervliet High. The Irish will have their home opener on Saturday, but you need a car to get to the game, as Watervliet High is off the busline for common commuting schleps like ye scribe.

This is nothing new. The Irish used to play their home games at Schenectady High before moving to Lansingburgh a few years back. Money almost certainly is the issue here.

Monday's heavy rains forced postponement of two women's lacrosse finals (Classes C & D) to today, adding to an already heavy schedule.

Two games were played, however, as Bethlehem claimed the Class A title, beating Shenendehowa, 6-5, and Queensbury won the B title in a Battle of the Lady Spartans over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 17-11.

Everyone else will try to go today.

The rain also washed out the Albany Dutchmen's game vs. Saugerties. They'll make it up as a doubleheader next month.
