News & notes

If you're looking for a college football live fix, RPI is not the place for it.

The Engineers' home games are closed to the public as they resume play on Saturday. Only school officials, aside from the teams and game officials, will be onsite due to concerns over COVID-19.

In sharp contrast, Union College will welcome fans for their home opener on Saturday, and UAlbany will do likewise a week later. The Great Danes are on the road for 2 of their first 3 games, starting the season at North Dakota State on Saturday, and at the Carrier Dome to play Syracuse two weeks later.

If you're an RPI fan, you have to hope they've got their YouTube channel back up and running. Just saying.

The Tri-City Valleycats will open a 4 game series at the last place NY Boulders tonight, tied for first with Equipe Quebec in the Frontier League's Atlantic Division. However, the 'Cats have just 3 home games left after splitting a doubleheader with New Jersey Thursday, and their road record is among the worst in the league. The team's hopes for another post-season run hinge on play 7 of their final 10 on the road.

High school football kicks off tonight with a handful of crossover games and 2 Class C contests. Unfortunately, it looks like Spectrum News has punted away Friday Night Matchup, taking no chances with COVID concerns.

Bob Burns begins anew at CBA tonight as the Brothers host LaSalle. Burns is already 3-0 vs. LaSalle coach John Audino, who opens opposite Burns for the 3rd straight season, the last 2 when Burns was at Troy High.

A quick reminder that today's women's golf match between Troy and Bethlehem has been postponed. The meet has been rescheduled for Monday, September 13, when the men's teams will also meet. The schedule change is due to a scheduling conflict at Normanside Country Club, Bethlehem's home course.
