News & notes

 UAlbany's women's basketball team snapped a 3 game losing streak in dispatching Bryant, 60-34, on Wednesday at SEFCU Arena. Freshman Lilly Phillips (Cambridge) had 6 points in the game for the Lady Danes. Grace Heeps (Columbia) & Abby Ray (Saratoga) were held scoreless. It didn't help the game was not available on radio or online, as UAlbany's radio station, WCDB, does not carry the games.

As for the men, their road game at Kansas State, out of the Big 12, was streamed on ESPN+. Dwayne Killings' squad was treated like Alpo by the Wildcats, who blew out the Danes, 71-43. We refer to these kinds of mismatches as tomato can games, and, unfortunately, Albany was the tomato can.

The College of St. Rose's teams were swept by unbeaten Pace University on Wednesday.

The women (1-4) dropped a 69-44 decision. Nina Fedullo (Amsterdam) had 6 points and 12 rebounds for St. Rose. The men were similarly dispatched, 75-61. Adam Anderson (Saratoga) led the Golden Knights with 14 points. Shane O'Dell (Schalmont) was held to 9 points.

UAlbany defensive end Jared Verse has decided to enter the transfer portal, and take his talents to a FBS team, like, for example, Michigan State, Florida State, Buffalo, Kansas, and Western Kentucky. Stay tuned.
================================================
A state ruling on Wednesday will force Cambridge to drop the "Indians" as their team name. The Cambridge Board of Education likely will appeal the ruling while they try to find a less-offensive rationale for retaining the long standing nickname for their teams.

St. Rose's women's soccer team has reached the regional final of the NCAA tournament. Yes, they're still playing in December. Go figure. The Golden Knights will travel to Beckley, West Virginia to play Mercy today, and that game is getting underway as these words are being written.
