News & notes

UAlbany's women's basketball team was to have played SUNY-Canton last weekend, but that game was wiped out by COVID. In its place, the Lady Danes will host Union College on Tuesday at SEFCU Arena. This game should raise the Dutchwomen's basketball profile.

Conversely, Siena's women's team was on the court at the Carrier Dome for a matinee vs. Syracuse, but that game was cancelled due to some COVID-related issues. While the team involved wasn't identified, it's assumed it was Rider, which beat the Lady Saints on Monday. No make-up date has been set for the Lady Orange.

COVID also had an impact on high school hockey, as both games scheduled on Wednesday were postponed.

Winless LaSalle was to host Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake-Ballston Spa at Conway Arena. CBA was to travel to the north country to play Queensbury. No make-up dates have yet been set for either game. LaSalle, in particular, is now off until the Mohawks tournament at Union on Monday.

The Albany Times-Union listed Shenendehowa grad Ian Anderson's World Series run with Atlanta as one of their top ten stories of 2021, finishing in 9th. With MLB teams currently locked out, Anderson might not make it to spring training in Florida on time come February, unless a new deal with the Players' Association can be reached.
