Come for lunch, stay for the beatdown (Schenectady @ Troy, 1/8/22)

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."--Matthew 7:12.

We knew this was the soft part of the schedule for Troy High going into the weekend. The task for Ryan Meikle's women's team was made tougher when they dressed just seven players in Friday's win over Ballston Spa. They got one more back today for a lunch hour matinee against Schenectady.

The above Bible verse fits, as Troy utilized a defensive alignment similar to what has been used against them so far this season by the likes of Burnt Hills, Averill Park, and Colonie. For the first time this season, Troy shut out an opponent in a single quarter, as they raced out to a 13-0 lead after the first period. The Lady Patriots finally got on the board less than 2 minutes into the second quarter, but had already dug themselves a hole too deep to get out of, and Troy cruised to a 49-23 victory, their second straight win.

We'll have the full stats tomorrow, but Troy had, I think, just one player in double figures.

Check the video:

The two teams meet again at the Pat Riley Center on January 18. Before that, Troy will finish out the longest homestand of the season with Saratoga on Wednesday, and Albany on Friday. The rematch will start a brutal four game road trip, including a non-league trip to Kingston in two weeks, part of a men's & women's doubleheader. We don't know if the Lady Tigers will be any different than they've been in past years against Troy, but you never know.
