News & notes

 The Albany Empire thought they solved their QB problem after Tommy Grady left after last season.

However, Mike Fafaul didn't impress in a season opening home loss to Carolina, and on Wednesday was shipped off to Jacksonville for QB Warrren Smith, Jr., who will share QB duties with Sam Castronova going forward, starting with this week's road game at Orlando.

We're looking for the result of last night's Tri-City Valleycats pre-season game at Bruno Stadium. As with the 'Cats' win over Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday, the local press can't be bothered to cover the game. We'll see about that come Saturday.
===========================================
Ian Anderson's line wasn't pretty on Wednesday. 5 1/3 innings. No runs, five hits, four walks, one strikeout. Thanks to a 7 run outburst by his Atlanta Braves teammates, Anderson picked up the win, as Atlanta salvaged a split in their four game series with the Mets Wednesday, 9-2.

The walks have been a problem for Anderson, who lowered his ERA to 4.04 as he raised his record to 3-1 for the season. Maybe the next time Anderson and the Braves are in New York, there will be a contingent from Shenendehowa to cheer him on.

Most of Wednesday's high school schedule was washed out by rain. We don't have a report on the men's lacrosse match between Troy & Hudson Falls as it was not submitted to the local papers.

Update, 1:45 pm.: Per Troy AD Paul Reinisch, Hudson Falls routed Troy, 14-4, so Troy now has lost three in a row, and nine of ten.

Troy High is touting, with help from Kyle Adams of The Record/Saratogian, their softball team being 1 game out of first place overall in the Suburban Council. At 8-2, headed into a road game at Columbia today, the Lady Horses sit atop the Gray division, and have won 10 in a row. They have the best overall record at 13-2, but Adams didn't break the standings down by division, as he should've. The only difficult games remaining in league are today at Columbia, and the road finale on May 11 at Bethlehem. Sean Geisel's club hosts winless Niskayuna tomorrow and Tamarac (Wasaren League) on Tuesday othewise.
