News & notes

 The Albany Patroons had a Thursday home game for just the 2nd time this season, and remain unbeaten at the Washington Avenue Armory, thrashing Connecticut, 147-103. As you might expect, this game was over early, as 9 Patroons reached double figures, a season high.
========================================
The post-season has already started for local colleges, but the results, so far, have been mixed.

For example, UAlbany's men's lacrosse team was eliminated in the America East tournament on Thursday, dropping a 17-7 decision to arch-rival Vermont. The women, on the other hand, have reached the finals of their tournament after turning back UMBC, 16-13.

Siena was eliminated from the MAAC men's tournament by St. Bonaventure, 12-10.

Russell Sage's softball team was bounced from the Empire 8 tournament in a 1-0 loss to St. John Fisher.

In the Liberty League softball tournament, Rochester defeated Skidmore, 9-0, and now will face RPI, 1-0 winners over Ithaca, in the finals today in Rochester.
=========================================
The seedings will be announced for the Section II baseball & softball playoffs in 10 days. One must assume that Troy High's softball team will get a very favorable seeding, up in the top 5, with three games (2 in league play) left on their schedule.

The Lady Horses ran their winning streak to 11 in a row, as Olivia DeCitise twirled her 2nd no-hitter of the season, and the team's 3rd, in beating Columbia, 2-0. DeCitise, a junior, finished with 15 strikeouts, and was one out away from a perfect game before giving up a walk in the home 7th. A Troy error put the tying runs on base, but DeCitise came back to put the finishing touches on her latest gem. For all intents & purposes, Troy has clinched the Gray division title, even though their focus is on the overall title. Of the three games remaining, the two league games left are against Blue division opponents (Niskayuna today, Bethlehem Wednesday), while Troy will host Tamarac (Wasaren League) on Tuesday.

Troy's baseball team should get a decent seeding, too. Coach Chris Stack's crew has won 9 of 10 after beating Columbia behind Mike Kennedy, 6-2. Kennedy fanned 10 in going the distance, and helped himself with a 2 run homer. They're going to love him at LSU next year.
