 Shaker High grad Jeff Hoffman and the Cincinnati Reds split their two game interleague series with the Boston Red Sox, as Boston beat Cincinnati, 7-1, on Wednesday. Hoffman pitched the 8th inning for the Reds, giving up three runs and three walks on one hit, with a wild pitch and two strikeouts.

And speaking of 518 alumni, Ian Anderson (Shenendehowa) will be on the mound for Atlanta tonight in Denver against the Colorado Rockies as the two teams begin a four game series. Anderson (3-3) has been up and down this season, often undone by the Braves' bullpen.

State tournament schedule update:

Baseball:

Section II Class A champion Averill Park will play Cortland tonight, but the site still has not been identified.

Men's lacrosse:

Class A: Shen will play either Scarsdale or Kingston Saturday at Shaker. Game time is 12:30 pm.

Class D: Schuylerville will play either O'Neill or Briarcliff, also at Shaker. This will lead off the quadruple-header at 10 am.

Women's lacrosse sub-regionals:

Class C:

Burnt Hills 20, Saugerties 9. MK Lescault led the way for the Spartans with 7 goals. Burnt Hills moves on to play Tappan Zee on Saturday.

Class D:

Schuylerville 14, O'Neill 7. The Black Horses will play Bronxville on Saturday.
