News & notes

The Tri-City Valleycats gave manager Pete Incaviglia his 100th win as the 'Cats' skipper, beating the Empire State Greys, 12-6, on Friday. Tri-City didn't need the usual barrage of home runs, but instead relied on timely hitting.

The Greys, a travel team owned by the Empire League, may not be back next season if the Frontier League can find a permanent 16th team to fill out the league roster.

Week 0 in Section II football actually got underway on Thursday night, as the unified forces of Lake George, Warrensburg, & North Warren dismantled Catskill-Cairo-Durham, 56-6. Ouch!

Spectrum News 1's Friday Night Matchup officially returns September 9, but the Albany branch threw a bone to Section II by picking up the feed from their Western NY affiliate for Friday's game between Shaker and CBA-DeWitt (Syracuse) at Utica College. The game started a half-hour earlier than your standard Friday game, and was a last minute addition to the schedule, such that it was not listed on Cable Guide.

For what it's worth, CBA-DeWitt defeated Shaker, 32-25.

LaSalle football coach John Audino still hasn't figured out Bob Burns' defense.

Burns, in his 2nd season at CBA, picked up right where he left off last season, as the Brothers retained the Sabre in a 1-sided blowout, 55-0. Between Burns' tenures at Troy and CBA, Audino is now 0-5 in head-to-head meetings with Burns.
