News & notes

For the 2nd straight season, a local college coach is facing an investigation into some unprofessional behavior.

This time, it's at Siena.

Women's coach Jim Jabir did not accompany the team  for their road game at Rider on Thursday night, as he is being accused of making racist remarks toward some of his players. Two little used players, including Simone Walker, left the team earlier this week, and now, it seems, we know why.

You'll recall that UAlbany men's coach Dwayne Killings served a 5 game suspension at the start of this season after an incident involving a player last season. In Jabir's case, in his 2nd season as women's coach, depending on how you look at it, this could be meriting more than just a suspension.

Stay tuned.

Troy High finished last in its own tournament Thursday night at Zotto Gym.

For unknown reasons, the game vs. Liverpool was not listed on the school's page on Aktivate, nor was it promoted in the papers.

Anyway, Adreo Ash led all scorers with 27 points as Liverpool handed Troy its 2nd straight loss, 70-56. Terrence Clark led Troy with 22 points, and Daniel Covington added 14. The Flying Horses (4-2) are idle until next Friday when they host Ballston Spa.

The women, meanwhile, are searching for their first win of the year, and nearly got it Thursday, as they battled back from a 2nd half deficit before falling to Guilderland, 45-40. Steve Lombard's club (0-8) returns home Wednesday to play Bethlehem, and will host the Lady Dutch on January 20 before a road trip to Kingston.

RPI's men's hockey team is spending New Year's weekend on the road. They should be using modern technology to transmit their radio broadcasts back to the 518.

There were some issues with the old school style transmission on Thursday, as RPI fell to Bowling Green, 3-1. As for WRPI, satellite transmission is possible in this day and age.

The Falcons host the Engineers again tonight.
