News & notes

New York's recently enacted Adult Survivors Act, which was signed into law late last year, has netted its 2nd high profile defendant.

Former boxing champion Mike Tyson, who trained in Catskill after relocating from Brooklyn in the 80's, is facing a lawsuit from an anonymous woman who says Tyson raped her in the early 90's after meeting him at September's (now the Red Envelope), a local nightspot. The fact that the alleged victim prefers to keep her identity a secret makes this worlds different than the ongoing litigation involving former president Donald Trump and journalist and former cable personality E. Jean Carroll, who was one of the first to use the new law to her advantage.

Tyson spent three years in prison for the rape of Desiree Washington, and it's believed this newly revealed incident was around the same time frame. A good number of Tyson's early fights were in Albany at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, and at the RPI-Houston Field House in Troy in the 80's.

Troy High welcomed back junior Terrence Clark prior to last night's game at Averill Park. Clark scored 20 points to lead all scorers, as Troy won its 2nd straight, 55-43. 8th grade phenom Stetson Merritt added 12 for Troy (7-5 overall), which moves on to Shenendehowa on Friday.

However, the Averill Park women's mastery of Troy continued in a 67-33 blowout win. Sean Organ's Warriors are chasing Albany for the Suburban Council Grey division title. AP led, 37-7, at the break, as the full court pressure gave Steve Lombard's club nothing but problems again as they lost their 3rd straight. Ava Mamone led Troy with 17 points, and led all scorers. Averill Park had 3 players in double figures, led by Kayleigh Ahern with 13 points. Troy's YouTube channel was dark again last night.

Tamarac senior Evan Franz, who had committed to Siena, and was named an honorary member of the men's basketball team at Siena, lost his battle with brain cancer on Tuesday at 18. With heavy hearts, Tamarac dedicated Tuesday's non-league game against Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons to Franz's memory, then went out and routed the visitors, 87-65.
