We've seen so many low-scoring games in high school play the last couple of years, you wouldn't think that it would also happen at the college level.
But, it did.
In the America East women's final on Friday, defense was key. UAlbany & Vermont were tied at 4 after the first period. The Lady Catamounts led, 17-10, at halftime, as if this was a football game, en route to capturing the title, 38-36.
Kayla Cooper led Albany with 12 points. Coach Colleen Mullen has already said that the Lady Danes will accept a bid for the Women's NIT.
It might be in Siena's best interest if they did the same.
Less than 24 hours after beating Fairfield for the 3rd time this season, and after the men's season ended, the Lady Saints fell to Iona for the 3rd time, 67-66. Anaja Brown led Siena with 20 points. Ahniysha Jackson added 18. Valencia Fontanelle-Posson was held to one free throw.

Shenendehowa grad Ian Anderson started Friday's pre-season game between Atlanta & Tampa Bay. Anderson went 3 2/3 innings, giving up just a run and a hit, walking three, and striking out two. Nick Anderson (no relation), acquired from Miami (I think) in a trade, picked up the win, as Atlanta won, 3-2.

State regional play is underway as I write, with 2 women's games already in the books, and a men's game near the finish.
In Women's Class D, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons defeated Seton Catholic, 37-30, and will return to Hudson Valley Community College one week from today.
However, Onondaga Community College has proven to be kryptonite to Section II's Class AA champions.
Liverpool defeated Albany in women's play, 56-51. As this is being written, the Liverpool men are on the verge of eliminating Green Tech. Full results tomorrow.
