News & notes

Congratulations to Saratoga Catholic baseball coach Alphonse "Phonsey" Lambert on winning career game #600 Saturday, as the Saints won the title game in the Phil Waring Memorial, defeating Schuylerville, 12-1, in 5 innings.

It's been a week of milestones in Section II. First, it was Curtis Nobles at Ballston Spa winning #250. Then, Mike Lilac, Jr. at Hoosick Falls claimed #400. Rico Friese at Maple Hill won #300.

Let's not forget that a chunk of Nobles' career victories came when he was at Troy High, so figure they'll send him some belated congratulations, if they haven't already done so.

The Tri-City Valleycats have won 2 straight to start the season, downing Trois-Rivieres, 6-1, on Saturday night. Carson McCusker hit the 1st homer of the season for the hosts, who close their series today at 5 pm. If you can't be at the game, and don't want to subscribe to FloBaseball, you can listen to the game at tcvalleycats.mixlr.com for free.

Tennis season is officially over at Troy High.

The Flying Horses got a participation trophy, if you will, as a 1st round tomato can, losing to Queensbury, 7-0. Since most of Troy's meets were never reported to the press, it's safe to assume this capped another winless season.

We're waiting for the result of Saturday's non-league lacrosse road game vs. Hoosick Falls-Tamarac, played on Tamarac's field in Cropseyville, and all of last week's flag football games.
