News & notes

UAlbany's women's lacrosse team ended their season Sunday in the 2nd round of the NCAA division 1 tournament, losing to Denver, 8-6. Albany finishes at 13-7 while Denver remains undefeated heading into the next round.

It was not a good day at all for UAlbany, as their baseball team was swept by UMBC, 11-7 & 7-2. The Great Danes drop to 2-19 in America East play with a week to go in the regular season before tournament play begins.

Later this month, Dolly Cairns (Saratoga) will graduate from Rhode Island with a degree in kinesiology. However, her basketball career isn't over yet.

The Daily Gazette reports that Cairns will be a graduate transfer to Florida Gulf Coast for next season, using up her remaining eligibility. The WNBA, then, will have to wait.

A year ago, Union College's men's lacrosse team reached the NCAA division 3 finals before losing to RIT. This year, the Dutchmen only got as far as the 3rd round.

Sunday, Union was eliminated by Middlebury, 19-10. Union finishes at 12-7 on the season. As you can tell, northeast schools like Union & UAlbany play shorter schedules than some of the bigger powers in the game.

The Tri-City Valleycats couldn't complete the sweep over Trois-Rivieres on Sunday, as the Aigles salvaged the final game of the series, 7-3. After a quick road trip, the 'Cats return home Friday to play the Washington (PA) Wild Things.
