With a week before their season starts in the Frontier League, the Tri-City Valleycats have signed a veteran outfielder with major league experience.
Aaron Altherr spent the last two seasons in the KBO in South Korea, following a major league career that saw him play for Philadelphia, San Francisco, & the Mets. The reason he didn't last long with either the Giants or Mets may have been because his skills were regressing. Ultimately, his numbers improved with the change of scenery to Korea.
Tri-City opens the season next Friday vs. Trois Riveres.

Troy High's baseball & softball teams are trending in opposite directions. Of course, we all know that, but the disparity hasn't been this bad since 2019.
The baseball team fell to 3-8 Thursday in absorbing their 2nd straight shutout loss, this time, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Columbia. Today's game vs. Niskayuna will be played at Central Park in Schenectady as, apparently, Nisky's field is undergoing renovations.
Meanwhile, Troy softball just keeps right on rolling.
The Lady Horses ran their winning streak to 7 in a row in shutting out Columbia, 2-0. The game was moved to East Greenbush because Troy's softball field was deemed unplayable after Wednesday's rains.
Not only did Olivia DeCitise record another complete game, a 2-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts, she also drove in both runs for Troy by going 3-3 at the plate. Troy (13-3, 8-3 Suburban Council) also visits Niskayuna today.

UAlbany hosts Binghamton at Joe Bruno Stadium tonight at 6. They'll have one more date in Troy after that, May 18 vs. NJIT, but considering the lack of attendance, a Valleycats home game will make that sparse crowd look like chump change. That's just the way it is.
