We are waiting on the result of Tuesday's volleyball match between Troy & LaSalle. Troy's women's soccer team opens play this morning at 11 am at Lansingburgh, and will play their home opener Saturday vs. Mechanicville at 9 am. The JV game between Troy & Lansingburgh, however, has been cancelled, and I suspect it might be on 'Burgh's side.

The Tri-City Valleycats prided themselves on having won every home series this season.

Not anymore.

Sussex County saw to that Wednesday with a 4-0 shutout, the 'Cats' 4th straight loss. Tri-City will seek to avert the sweep tonight.

As football season approaches, and with soccer, golf, and volleyball having started, as noted above, some schools in Section II are dragging their collective feet on name changes mandated by the state. Some, like Averill Park and Cambridge, are waiting on school board decisions that won't come until after classes begin next week, it would appear. Let's update the list of what we already have:

Corinth: Riverhawks. Coxsackie-Athens adopted the same nickname 2 years ago.
Glens Falls: Black Bears, which fits in with the north country-centric school.
Hoosic Valley: Hawks.
Schoharie: Storm.
Lake George: Lakers.

Waterford will retain Fordians, but are changing their mascot.
